Monuments of stone, built many thousands of years, are found in droves in Europe, Stonehenge is the best known of all, though not the most common. Menhirs and dolmens are found also in France, Portugal and Italy. Interestingly, Brazil also has a rare dolmen, located in Bahia, known as Pedra de Santana.

megaliths (from Greek mega , megalos = great, and lithos = stone) monuments are erected by Neolithic societies in Europe, produced between the V and III millennia BC are generally of stamp ritualistic funeral or astronomical, whose technology construction is often unknown and is controversial among experts.

Brazil also has an unusual megalithic monument, perhaps the single of all South America, located in the village of Santana, the city of Paramirim, Bahia. It is a dolmen (Breton name derived from dol = table; and men = stone) comprising a chamber formed by a large slab resting on vertical stones supporting it, probably for ritualistic nature. No one knows exactly who built it, using that kind of technique. Probably have profited from the use of levers to lift the huge block fit while the smaller stones of support, which would be a colossal done for the season due to the enormous weight of the monument.

This is one of the most curious archaeological sites in Brazil. A stone monument ritualistic entirely natural, since there is no other dolmen on the continent, only in faraway Europe. It was not part of the tradition of our indigenous erect monuments of this kind, which makes the building even more enigmatic.
