Poor English language. We Brazilians love to abuse her. But this is our choice, so to speak that we use in day-to-day conversations in the bar, among friends and family. But society, in certain instances, requires us to knowledge of the cultural norms of the language. This tool is about to be taken of students in Youth and Adult (EJA) by the Ministry of Education.
The volume of teaching English For a better life, the collection Living and Learning, distributed by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and adopted by the country's 4,236 public schools, encourages students Elementary School EJA program to speak and write wrong, arguing that it takes "to highlight the language of social group and the different varieties of Portuguese." In this context, glaring errors of agreement are encouraged by an author of the book, Heloisa Ramos, eg: " we take the fish." The author advocates the "use of the popular standard" in the classroom, and gives another example of how students can beat up a little more to have such a harsh Portuguese, with the concurrence of the MEC, the book says, is perfectly acceptable to use the expression " The illustrated book more interesting are borrowed."
What I see here is an incredible myriad of mistakes, irresponsibility and bad intentions.
Bourbon French Courts have established good manners (and many frills as well) as the norm and social distinction to all the educated elite and aristocratic Europe. When the bourgeoisie came to power, cut off the heads of kings, but sought to imitate the nobility in the matter of social distinction by customs. One way to achieve status and open doors in life was fairly good area of \u200b\u200bcultivated language and its grammatical rules.
The world has changed a lot since then, fortunately, but at least one thing remained: the domain of cultural norms of the language is a prerequisite for upward social mobility in bourgeois society in which we live, especially for the poorest. But our Ministry of Education has just closed that door in the face of hundreds of thousands of students, who are in education one of the few chances to get ahead.
Speak that neither brother's chamber, but society requires cultural norms
The author of this abomination that the book is doing is an attack against the lower social classes, encouraging social exclusion, condemning people to have an identity only in their restricted social circles, with their slang and their linguistic tics. Does anyone imagine a lawyer or an engineer who does not know how to speak properly and be successful? Any company hiring an enthusiastic "bro" speech full of salaams?
Tell you what, bureaucrats from MEC and also of the entire government: from now, in vestibular of federal universities, to job interviews and public procurement to organize, is authorized to employ the "different varieties of Portuguese " things like " nĂ³is food will do," or " we ate two eggs for lunch " in the name of "enhancing the language group," okay? Otherwise, it'll be something suspect, will think that you deliberately want to keep a significant portion of the poor in their narrow cultural ghetto and in eternal ignorance, unable to compete for better jobs, unable to rise socially, without knowing the language that you had to master to be able to sit comfortably in their seats of government employees. Far from wanting people to go around talking or writing as Machado de Assis, do not you just want to take these citizens a fundamental tool for social mobility. We may charge the cultural norms and encourage popular standard in schools for the poor, but looks like brabas of social discrimination, disguised in the best of intentions.
