Cold Sore On Dog's Mouth

Realengo opportunistic revives debate on disarmament

Escola Tasso Da Silveira - Realengo

Even in the heat of the tragic events which killed 12 children in a school Realengo (left image), opportunistic politicians and sectors of society who have lost in the referendum on disarmament in 2005 trying to push a new referendum on the throat of society, piggybacking on the commotion caused by the barbaric act Wellington de Oliveira Menezes.

José Sarney was the first to hypothesize a new referendum after the attack: "I think we should take an initiative in this direction [to hold a new referendum]. I'm on it at the next meeting with party leaders in the Senate to see if we are unable to immediately vote on a bill modifying what was decided in the referendum and making another plebiscite "

He claims he intends to change the" evil for good, " a complete disregard for the sovereign decision of the ballot in 2005, which reflected the will of the majority of the population (the result was 63.94% of the votes against disarmament and 36.06% in favor).

not forget that in that year there was a great national debate about public opinion and broad sectors of civil society before the vote. Advertisements on TV and radio mandatory setting out the arguments for and against disarmament. The people are not embarked on the campaign all the cute yes (For disarmament) which included the accession of global actors and actresses who live in gated communities and well-protected materials and weekly magazine Veja in inducing the voter's choice. The "no to nuclear disarmament" won.

Six years later, wanting to make opportunistic national awareness on account of the attack Realengo to see if this time it managed to impose disarmament to the country.

I wish I could come here and say that Brazil is a country where law-abiding citizen has adequate police protection, where households do not are daily invaded by thugs and the weapons in civilian hands are only to fall into the wrong hands and cause accidents. Furthermore, I wish that I believed, as not believe in 2005 that disarmament would affect the bearing arms traffickers fruits of international smuggling and police corruption - the real main reasons of violence in Rio and in Brazil. The truth is that the people understood that disarming law-abiding citizen would not solve the root problem of deaths by firearms in Brazil, mostly caused by who has the legal right to use them (police) and who lives outside the law - and therefore would not be affected by the disarmament (the bandits, burglars and drug dealers who do not buy their weapons legally at the corner store).

Resurrect the referendum is a disrespect to the sovereign decision of the Brazilian people, a result of cheap opportunism that tries to take advantage of the warmth of an isolated crime made by a madman - and what would be done the same way with or without disarmament, since the Bandit got weapons clandestinely - to impose the will of a certain sector of society.
