A project of the Municipal of Rio de Janeiro will give the talk: the intention to keep only one teacher teaching multiple subjects in the 6th year (former 5th grade) exactly as in the series Earlier, when the "aunt" teaches all subjects. The idea is to keep the emotional ties of the students with their teacher, but I believe it has something more behind this story.
Currently 53 classes are part of this project, a kind of laboratory. The intention is to extend this model to all classes in the municipal year. Some people like Secretary of Education of Rio, Claudia Costin, believe that this system helps keep the bond of affection teacher / student, children 11 years because it was not prepared for the transition, but for me this is a tremendous chatter. In this fast-paced world of today, 11 years young in a big city like Rio de Janeiro, would not be psychologically prepared to drop their teachers of literacy? The secretary must be delirious. In my former 4th grade we loved our teacher Rozen too, but we had to change schools and teaching method, and so we were not traumatized or something.
Claudia Costin argues strange design
Another justification is strange given by a professor of Education at USP, Ocimar Alavarse. He believes that a single teacher giving science, mathematics and Portuguese favors "interdisciplinarity," since it "will force connections between disciplines that are more present." In my view this is a mistake because interdisciplinarity is better characterized with the cooperation of several teachers in each of their disciplines, seeking a better integration between them, and not a single teacher giving all subjects. This kind of interaction "forced" does not seem ideal.
All this makes us think that students in 6th grade the public schools gain in terms of content and learning with a teacher giving a little of everything and does not delve into anything, while his fellow students in private already starting to have the first contacts with the subjects as history, geography, literature, English, etc.. more magnified. I do not believe that the courses of the faculties of education prepare teachers to dominate all areas of knowledge. Even for the 6th year, each area has its own peculiarities, and each teacher learned to make the students take the first steps in their respective disciplines. Do not even want to hypothesize that the Secretary of Education is arranging a strategy to lower the cost of labor in school, but at least she is harming the development of young students from public schools.
